What is a shot peening machine?

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Although the shot peening machine has the same principle as a shot blasting machine, "launching" media in the direction of a piece, they are very different. See the main questions we will approach in the article:

  • Why we do shot peening?

  • Does shot peening increase hardness?

  • Is shot peening cheap?

Why do we do shot peening?

The shot peening process is used because it is way more sophisticated and restricted than shot blasting. Some of the main differences between the systems are regarding the abrasive launch: the angle of attack, the volume, the speed and besides that, the abrasive rating (size and roundness).

Does shot peening increase hardness?

The shot peening process can increase component life in service by up to 1,300%. Besides that, reducing tensile stress on the surface can minimize equipment fatigue by 560%.

Is shot peening cheap?

It is a difficult question because a shot peening machine is built to supply the customer's need, so it depends on the application. All we can say is that it is a necessary process in many types of pieces and that CMV® has the best cost-benefit in the market.

We develop shot peening machines that combine low maintenance costs and high performance. Talk to our US associates so he can provide a technical consulting.
